FEMA Recovery Assistance Centers – 11/5/12

As mentioned previously, homeowners can call 1-800-621-FEMA, or visit www.disasterassistance.gov.

You can also visit a FEMA recovery center to speak face to face with a FEMA rep.  Visit this link to enter your address and find a center near you.

IMPORTANT:  Info for vacation home owners

We were informed by a FEMA rep that FEMA assistance is not available for second homes, only primary residences.  They can offer information on other assistance that you may qualify for.  Your first step should be to contact your insurance carrier and open a claim.  You should then contact FEMA and register a claim with them as well.  Most claims will be denied initially, and if so, you will receive a letter requesting more information to process your claim.  Read the letter carefully and respond as quickly as possible.  ALWAYS keep copies of all correspondence.  We are dealing with a government agency, so things tend to disappear!
