Community Service Project from Gettysburg College Aids Sandy Cleanup
Led by Kurt Mathisen, a sophomore at Gettysburg College, a chartered bus with 48 college students arrived at Ocean Beach to do community service projects during their spring break. Kurt is the son of Diane Mathisen. His grandfather is Bill Wehrle. Twenty four students went to OB3 to work with Tom from OBPM. The other 24 students came to OB2.
These young ladies and men were excellent. They made fifty sandbags to place around the playground fence. Tiles from the clubhouse were bagged for pick up. The bay beach area was cleaned up. The playground was cleaned of storm debris. Route 35 south from Melody Lane to South Lagoon was groomed. The Gull Lane parking lot was also cleaned of storm debris.
I cannot say enough about these great youngsters. They were not afraid to get their hands dirty. In appreciation, Jeff Eckhard, president, agreed to send an OBYC club donation of two hundred dollars to the Gettysburg College Choir.
I thought you would like to hear some positive information!
