In Loving Memory of Thomas “Tom” Barrett, Sr.

Some people come to Ocean Beach 2 for the summers. Others become part of what makes this community so special. Tom Barrett, Sr. was undoubtedly one of those people.

Known affectionately to generations of neighbors, friends, and young lifeguards as “Mr. B,” “Mr. Barrett,” or simply “G,” Tom was so much more than a familiar face on the beach. He was a friend, a mentor, a generous supporter, and, in every sense of the word, a pillar of our community.

After years of renting in Ocean Beach 2, Tom and his beloved late wife, Susan, made this community their family’s summer home, building a legacy that now spans three generations.

All four of their children — Suzanne, Courtney, Thomas, and Michael — grew up here, working and volunteering in nearly every role our community had to offer. They went on to raise their own families here, giving Tom the joy of watching all nine of his grandchildren make memories on those same beaches.

Whether volunteering, donating his time and expertise, or offering advice and a helping hand, Tom gave so much of himself without ever expecting anything in return.

He had a remarkable appreciation for life. Rain or shine, every day at the beach was “another day in paradise.” His kindness, wisdom, and generosity touched countless lives.

Our hearts go out to the entire Barrett family.

𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝟐 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭. The legacy he and Susan built will live on through their family and the community they loved so dearly.

The beach won’t be quite the same without you, Mr. B.
