We remember James H. Pechtold III, who passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at the age of 91.
James lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, humor, and a deep love for his family and friends. A proud “Parkie,” he devoted more than 39 years to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, retiring as a supervisor and carrying with him countless stories and memories from a career he truly loved.
He also found great joy at his bungalow on the lagoon in Ocean Beach, where he spent many treasured summers and falls, and as a proud member of the Ocean Beach Yacht Club. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, quirky personality, and his beloved saying, “My Petunia in the Onion Patch.”
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
